Maintaining your CNA or HHA certification requires ongoing education. Failing to meet requirements can result in certification lapse, meaning you can't work until you complete them — and may need to retake the full training program.
Federal Minimum Requirements
Under OBRA regulations, all certified nursing assistants and home health aides must complete 12 hours of in-service training annually, including content on patient rights and abuse prevention.

Certification Renewal Process
- Complete required CE hours before your deadline
- Demonstrate employment as a CNA/HHA within the past 24 months
- Submit renewal application to your state nurse aide registry
